ABOUT GULF COAST FOUNDATION

We build strong communities through leadership, partnership, and endowed philanthropy.

At Gulf Coast Community Foundation, we inspire people and mobilize resources to transform the communities we serve. Working with donors and volunteers who care about the future of our region, we invest in the work of community organizations that change lives for the better, every day.

Gulf Coast Community Foundation is a public charity that was created in late 1995. Since we began making grants in 1996, we have invested more than $105 million in the areas of arts and culture, health and human services, education, civic affairs, and the environment. Gulf Coast is the largest community foundation in Florida.

Our Mission:  We are committed to improving quality of life in the communities we serve.

Our Vision: The Board of the Foundation envisions a region known for endowed philanthropy,a vital nonprofit community, and the ability to address emerging issues.

AGENDA FOR ACTION

A foundation gives money to deserving nonprofit organizations and to students in the form of scholarships. The short hand for this giving away of money is the term“grants.” Gulf Coast makes three categories of grants:

  • 1. Responsive grants on behalf of our donors using the funds they have contributed

  • 2. Responsive grants to nonprofit organizations that have submitted applications to us, using the funds from our original endowment and from donors who have created permanently endowed funds.

  • 3. Proactive grants to fund big new ideas—visionary, long-term ideas designed to make our community stronger. We also use funds that are permanently endowed at Gulf Coast for this purpose.

These proactive grants are what we call our Agenda for Action, and right now, we are focused on two big issues—jobs and education. We call these Agenda items CareerEdge and STEM.
