Elizabeth Weil Bergmann's career spans being a distinguished choreographer, teacher, performer, and administrator. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Bergmann danced professionally and taught in New York City for José Limón. In 1995 she was a Fulbright Scholar to Trinidad, West Indies.

Bergmann will discuss her eleven years at Harvard, developing their dance program from a small group of dedicated dancers to a thriving program. Over 800 students were involved in dance at Harvard.  Bergmann will show footage of students dancing and choreographing for the concerts that are given at Harvard and answer questions from the floor regarding the state of dance and the arts at Harvard.

She developed the Dance Department at the University of Michigan where she also received her Master’s Degree. As a faculty member there, she received their most prestigious award, the Distinguished Faculty Award. In 2000, she was again honored by the University of Michigan’s Alumni Association with a Citation of Merit for Lifetime Achievement.

Having received three Choreography Fellowship Grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, a three-year grant from the California Arts Council, and a Virginia Commission for the Arts choreography grant, her work has been shown both nationally and internationally.

Her book, Connecting To Creativity: Ten Keys to Unlocking Your Creative Potential, co-authored with Elizabeth Colton, was published by Capital Books. Working in the field of creativity, she has given workshops for the Smithsonian, the Bunting Institute, the Harvard Coop, The University of Michigan, and Borders Books.

Since moving to Sarasota she has taught and/or lectured for the Carreño Dance Festival, the School of Russian Ballet, the Longboat Key Education Center, the Fine Arts Society of Sarasota, and for the Ringling Museum’s 2013 “New Stages” series in the Historic Asolo. Last February she choreographed Karl Jenkin’s “Requiem” with the Key Chorale for seven local dance companies presented at Sailor Circus. See "Sneak Preview" video below.
